Story #340 ("Truth-Seekers: The Metagene Wars" Story #5) Note: Turn on "word wrap" in Notepad before viewing. "The Metagene Secrets" By Richard Broadstreet ---------------------------------------------------------- Sunday, October 17, 2010 - 11:21pm unknown location ---------------------------------------------------------- One car approached another parked car and stopped next to it in the middle of nowhere. The driver got out and walked up to another man leaning against his car. "Do you have the document?" the new arrival asked. "Yes. I managed to hack into their computer system, get a copy, and decode it." the waiting man replied. "Great. General Turcotte will be pleased." the arriving man said. "But what if it is what he feared it would be?" the waiting man asked as he handed the other a CD with the document on it. The arriving man took the CD from him and placed it carefully in his pocket. "Then he would deal with it accordingly. All evidence would be promptly removed. Broadstreet must not know about this project." Sunday, October 17, 2010 - 11:24pm Home - near Nathrop, CO, USA --------------------------------------------------------- "Someone hacked into our computer system very early this morning. I didn't know it happened until just about an hour ago." Scott told me. "When getting this computer back online here when we moved back... I forgot to turn on the firewall." "Atleast, it's on now, right?" I asked. "Yeah." Scott answered. "No one else should be able to hack into it now... They only took a copy of one file anyway, Victor's final document." "Who would want that?" I muttered. "Unless, the gov's on our tail again." "I'm gonna try decoding the rest of the message. I have to find out why they wanted it." Scott told me. "Good luck, bro." I said and left the room as Scott sat down before the computer and got to work. Monday, October 18, 2010 - 7:51pm Hawke's diner -------------------------------------------------------- The sun was setting as two government agents met in an empty diner in the middle of nowhere. "The document in Richard's possession has been verified to contain sensitive information." the woman said the the man. "You've been ordered to take care of it." "Piece of cake..." the man muttered. Monday, October 18, 2010 - 8:42pm Home - near Nathrop, CO, USA -------------------------------------------------------- Scott sat in front of his computer, still attempting to decode Victor's final message. He believed that he's almost got it cracked. "Scott." Isabel called behind him. Scott turned his chair around and faced Isabel. "Hey." Scott said with a smile. "I have to tell you something." Isabel said, straight-faced. "What is it?" Scott asked. "I can't--" Isabel began. She was cut off by an alarm sound coming from the computer. Scott turned back around quickly and saw that someone was trying to break into his system. "Shit." Scott muttered. He began typing away at the keys, attempting to stop the intruder. Isabel looked at Scott, sighed, and left the room. Early Tuesday, October 19, 2010 - 2:08am Home - near Nathrop, CO, USA -------------------------------------------------------- The intruder turned off the security system and broke into the house. If he couldn't delete the file through hacking, he had to do it the slightly harder way. He snuck up the stairs and was about to enter the UFO study room when he noticed it was occupied. Someone was sitting in front of the computer, typing away on the keyboard. No problem. The intruder silently entered the darkened room. He quietly grabbed a large, heavy book of one of the many bookshelves in the room and carefully approached the man at the computer. He slowly lifted the book above his head and swung down, hitting the man on the head. He fell out of the chair and to the floor. The intruder took Scott's place in the chair and began typing away at the keys. He was about to delete the Victor file when Scott sprang up from the floor and aimed a gun at the intruder's head. "I wouldn't do that..." Scott muttered. The intruder slowly pulled away from the keyboard. "Now decode it." Scott told him. "I can't." the intruder said. "Decode it. Now." Scott insisted and cocked the gun. The intruder pulled back up to the keyboard and began typing at the keys again, as Scott held the gun to his head. Only minutes later, he was finished. When he was, Scott knocked him out cold and began examining the decoded document. Scot read it for a few minutes and was amazed by what he read. "Oh, my god..." Scott muttered.
