Story #330 ("Truth-Seekers: The Metagene Wars" Story #1) Note: Turn on "word wrap" before viewing. "The Chosen Path" By Richard Broadstreet ---------------------------------------------------------- Monday, February 1, 2010 - 08:51am EST Cemetary - near Nathrop, CO, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Scott Broadstreet got out of the car and began walking between the tombstones until he got to his brother's grave. Scott was frowning as he placed some flowers next to Richard's headstone. It has been three years since Richard died in his coma. Scott still blamed himself for his death. I could've gotten to you sooner, Scott thought. Richard and Scott both believed there was extraterrestrial life beyond Earth. They had begun a research project to prove this and to prove that there was a massive cover-up being perpatrated by the U.S. government for over sixty years and this cover-up still continues now. Richard once saved the world from alien invasion. Around the same time, he was given two large clear marbles called Spheres from a man who called himself Victor. These Spheres held unbelievably supernatural powers. And these same same Spheres could have saved Richard's life. But Scott didn't find them in Richard's hiding spot and got them back to him in time. It cost him his life. Through their research, they had uncovered that there was a huge war raging between two alien races, the Greys and Reptilians, for possession of Earth. They had also uncovered that there was a dormant gene in select members of the human race which gave those people supernatural powers when activated. This gene became known as the Metagene. Richard had this gene within him. Just after the holidays in 2007, the Spheres activated Richard's Metagene powers. Every time Richard used these powers it was like sending up a flare to the government. They tracked him down, abducted him, and locked him up in the Moonbase. Scott and the others all thought he was dead. There, Richard found a clone of Richard's long-lost sister, Dana. But at first, she believed she was really his sister. Togather, they escaped the Moonbase with one of the emergency escape podships. But, as they were escaping, they were fired upon by the Moonbase weapons system, causing the podship to crash on Earth. The Dana clone survived, but was soon killed by a brainwashed Metagene assassin who was after Richard. Richard was in a coma for three weeks until he died on his twenty-fourth birthday, exactly three years ago today. If only Scott could have gotten to him sooner with the Spheres. Then Richard would still be alive today. "I'm so sorry, Richard." Scott said, staring at Richard's tombstone. He then paused for a few moments. "I'm engaged now. To a real hotty." Scott chuckled and smirked. "Her name's Isabel." "And I work in New York City now. I create computer software for Xtrasoft." Scott said. "It's... it's going... great..." A single tear flowed from his left eye and ran down his cheek. "I miss you, bro." Monday, February 1, 2010 - 04:21pm EST Scott's Apartment - New York, NY, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Scott parked his car near his apartment building and was about to get out when his Viewphone rang. He took it out of his pocket. A Viewphone was a wireless phone with a two-inch viewscreen. You can now see the person you're talking to. Scott answered the phone and Isabel's face appeared on the viewscreen. "Oh, hey, babe." Scott said and smiled. "Hey." Isabel said and smiled back. "Where are you?" Scott laughed a little. "I'm in my car and I was about to come in when you called." "Oh. Sorry." Isabel said, still smiling. "See ya in a few minutes." Isabel's face disappeared from the screen when she hung up. Scott then hung up on his Viewphone, put it in his pocket, and got out of the car. He walked to the stairs, climbed them, and entered his apartment building. He checked the mail but found nothing. He then went to his apartment further down the hallway and entered, closing the door behind him. Isabel hurried to Scott and they passionately kissed. "I missed you so much." Isabel told him. "I missed you too." Scott said and kissed her again. "So... how was your day?" "Normal." Isabel replied. They walked into the living room togather. Early Tuesday, February 2, 2010 - 02:18am EST Scott's Apartment - New York, NY, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Isabel and Scott were both laying in thier bed, fast asleep. Sounds were faintly heard from "the city that never sleeps". But within this room, everything was calm. Normal. But not for much longer. All of a sudden, a bright white light began to shine through the nearby window and shone onto the bed. The bed sheets moved by themselves, uncovering Scott. Then Scott began to rise into the air, as if he were weightless. Scott's eyes slowly opened and he looked around, surveying the scene. He tried to cover his eyes from the bright light but he couldn't move his arms. He then tried to scream for help but nothing was heard. Isabel was still laying fast asleep in the bed. Scott suddenly began moving. A few moments later, Scott's feet were now facing the window with the mysterious light beyond. The silence as this was occurring was deafening. Then Scott began moving toward the window and toward the light. Again, Scott tried to move or scream but he could not. Scott's body went right through the window but the glass did not break. His body soon disappeared within the bright light. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 - 07:54am EST Scott's Apartment - New York, NY, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- The bedside clock radio awoke Scott. He sat up in bed and immediately felt odd. He sensed that something had happened last night but he didn't know what. Scott stood, got dressed, and walked into the living room. "Good morning, babe." he said to Isabel with a smile. "Good morning." Isabel replied as she was cooking breakfast. Scott sat down on the couch and began watching the morning news. A graphic appeared on the screen next to the newswoman that was shaped like a flying disc. Under the graphic was the word "UFOs". "Last night, many sightings of mysterious lights and objects in the night sky were reported to the authorities." the newswoman reported. "Many photos and a few videos have been sent to us as well." As she said this, a few photos of the objects and lights were seen. Then, a video of some pulsating lights was shown. "This video was filmed on Fifth street just last night. This object was seen for up to thirty minutes before it disappeared." The mystery object seen on the screen disappeared suddenly. "The U.S. Air Force is currently investigating these sightings." "They'll probably just deem it a weather balloon and shove it under the rug." Scott muttered. "What, hun?" Isabel called. "Oh. Nothing." Scott called back. Then, a sound came from his laptop computer sitting on the coffee table in front of him, indicating that he had new e-mail. Scott opened the computer to find one new e-mail from Nikolas. Nikolas was supposedly an alien shapeshifter that had helped Richard and Scott many times before. But lately (the last three years), Scott has been ignoring Nikolas' e-mails. Scott opened the e-mial but stopped himself before deleting it. Scott read the e-mail. Those UFO sightings were no normal sightings. You were abducted by the Greys last night. Your destiny lies in uncovering truth. Do not continue your path to normalcy. It will lead to Earth's doom. -Nikolas "Hey babe?" Scott called into the kitchen. "I'm going to call off work today. I have... something else to do." Tuesday, February 2, 2010 - 11:28am EST Scott's Apartment - New York, NY, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Isabel sat down in Scott's lap as he was sitting on the couch. She began to passionately kiss Scott. A minute or so later, their lips parted. "I can't wait to marry you." Isabel told him. "I can't wait either." Scott replied. Isabel and Scott passionately kissed once again. "What do you have to do today?" Isabel asked. "Well... I've got something to do." Scott replied. "What is it?" Isabel insisted. "I... have to go back to researching UFOs." Scott told her. "Scott." Isabel fussed. "You promied me you would stay away from that kind of stuff." "I need to get back into it." Scott explained. "I think I was abducted last night." Right then, the phone rang and Scott answered. "Hello?" "Do not persue Richard's crusade and make it our own." A voice on the phone demanded. "Why lose your normal life for something so untrue? You will most certainly die if you stray from your current path." "You don't scare me." Scott said and Isabel's face changed to a look of alarm. "Who are you?" The threatening caller hung up and Scott sighed. "Who was it?" Isabel asked. "I don't know." Scott replied. "He threatened me not to begin researching UFOs again." "Then... then don't." Isabel told Scott. "But, I must." Scott said. "I'm going back to Colorado for I don't know how long. Do you want to come with?" Tuesday, February 2, 2010 - 04:46pm EST Richard Broadstreet's Residence - near Nathrop, CO, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Scott brought the rental car to a stop in the driveway of Richard's old house. He and Isabel got out of the car and began walking up to the house. "I haven't been here in years." Scott said. "Why are we here?" Isabel asked. "I have to go get some things. Stay here. I'll be right back." Scott told her then entered the house. Scott went to the nearby closet immediately after entering the house. He opened the closet door and then opened the secret door within. The area beyond led to a secret room that Richard had kept secret from them all until the day that Scott discovered it. The same day that Richard had died. The secret room had a desk with the Spheres that could have saved Richard's life. But Scott let Richard down that day and he died. Scott walked down the stairs and entered the secret room. He then took out his key ring and found the key belonging to one of the desk's drawers. Scott sat down at the desk, unlocked the drawer, and opened it. Inside, Scott found everything that he had left there: A box containing two large marbles with some kind of powers, the Spheres; a skeleton key that Richard had always wore around his neck; And a computer disk containing Victor's final message that he had written us just before he had died. Scott placed the skeleton key on a chain round his neck, grabbed the other items as well, and locked the drower afterward. He quickly raced up the stairs, closed the two doors, and walked out onto the front porch. At that point, Scott noticed something. Isabel was nowhere in sight. "Isabel?" Scott called. He waited for an answer but there was none. "Isabel!" Scott called again. And again, there was no reply. Isabel was gone. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 - 05:18pm EST Richard Broadstreet's Residence - near Nathop, CO, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Scott sat in the driver's seat of the rental car, trying to think of something to do. Scott had lost his father, mother, sister, and brother to the battle against the government, or, as Scott pronunciated, "Gov". And now, Scott was afraid that Isabel had gone the same way. Scott leaned out the window and called Isabel's name a few more times. But there was stil no reply. He needed some help. Scott took his Viewphone out of his pocket and dialed up an old friend. After three rings, Tabitha Keown's face appeared on the previosly-blank viewscreen. "Oh, hey, Scott. Long time, no see." Tabitha said. "What's up?" Tabitha had been a great colleague to Scott and Richard during their original investigations. She had worked for a UFO research organization until she discovered there was a government agent working undercover there. "I came back to Colorado to begin investigating again. I brought Isabel... my fiance... with me but now she's missing. Could you find the time to come and help me out?" Scott asked. "Alright." Tabitha replied. "Another thing..." Scott began. "I think I was abducted last night when I was in New York." "I'll be there as soon as I can. Until then, search the surrounding woods. She may have just wondered off." Tabitha said before her face disappeared from the viewscreen. Scott hung up his Viewphone as well and placed it back in his pocket. He then opened the car door and stepped out, closing the door behind him. "Isabel!" Scott called out a few times. He waited for even the faintest of replies, but still heard none. A few moments later, Scott heard a buzzing sound in the distance. It sounded like an electric car running. He ran in the direction of the sound, behind the house. Scott cautiously peered around the back corner of the house to see a white van parked behind the house facing away from Scott. He began sneaking up behind the van. But, as he got halfway toward it, the van suddenly pulled away and raced off into the woods. "Fuck." Scott muttered as the mysterious van disappeared from sight. Scott's Veiwphone rang. He took it out of his pocket and answered with a simple "hello". "Stop investigating now. Or more of your colleagues and friends will turn up... 'missing'." the mysterious caller said. The screen usually showed who you were talking to, but this time, it was just black. Scott recognized the caller's voice but couldn't quite place who it was. "Who is this?" Scott demanded, staring at the phone. "That is not important." the mystery caller told him. "Stop investigating now!" And with that, he hung up. Scott hung up afterward and placed the Veiwphone back in his pocket. He sighed. Tuesday, February 2, 2010 -08:43pm EST Richard Broadstreet's Residence - near Nathrop, CO, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Scott had waited for a few hours for Tabitha's arrival, not knowing what to do about the latest developments. Tabitha arrived about five minutes ago. They were both now sitting in the living room. "I have so many memories here." Scott said, looking around. "Me too." Tabitha muttered. "It almost seems like yesterday when Richard... passed away. Twice." Tabitha sighed. "How've you been doing?" "I've been doing good... until just recently. I was abducted. I think I was. Then, I came here to begin researching again. But they took Isabel, my future wife." Scott's voice began quivering as he spoke. "I have to get her back. I love her." "We''ll get her back, Scott." Tabitha told him. "I promise." Scot was silent for a moment. Then, he spoke. "If Richard was here, he'd know what to do." Scott muttered. Tabitha sighed. "You think we should contact Theresa too?" she asked. "Nahh." Scott replied. "I wouldn't want to hurt her. Returning her to this would just bring back sad memories for her." Theresa had been Richard's boyfriend. Tabitha nodded, agreeing. Wednesday, February 3, 2010 - 07:41am EST Richard Broadstreet's Residence - near Nathrop, CO, USA ---------------------------------------------------------- Scott was awoken by a knocking sound at the door. He and Tabitha were still sitting in the chairs they were sitting in the night before. Tabitha was still asleep. The knocking repeated. Scott stood, rubbed his eyes, and walked to the door. The knocking repeated once more before he opened the door. Who Scott saw at the door amazed him. His eyes and mouth opened wide. "Ri-- Richard?" Scott said. "Hey, bro." Richard told Scott. "I'm back." End of Story #330 ------------------ To Be Continued...
